5/28/2023 0 Comments Pratchett hogfather![]() ![]() My favourite bit in this one is probably the part with Hex – the thinking machine. ![]() I can't really compare it to the other Discworld stories, as it's been to long since I read any of the other stories, but the stories staring DEATH are certainly among my favourite Pratchett stories and this is no exception. Hogfather is just as funny as the other Discworld books and just as crazy. ![]() The wizards of Unseen University is getting ready for the traditional Hogwatch eating frenzy and… Meanwhile DEATHs granddaughter tries to find the real Hogfather and/or Teatime. I'll try anyway: Then Hogfather is "killed" by the assassin Teatime, DEATH (that's his name) decides to take over and try to keep up the faith, by putting on a white beard, delivering gifts and doing the old "Ho Ho Ho" bit. I kind of overdosed on Pratchett a few years ago and haven't read anything of his for a while.Īs it often is with Pratchett's books, they are rather hard to describe or even retell – it's very easy to fail miserably to convey just what really goes on and just how funny it all is. The first Pratchett book that I've read in a long time. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Alec william di canzio![]() ![]() Thriving at the plentiful table provided by his father’s line of work and his mother’s skill, Alec grew to be a cheerful, sturdy boy and then a good-looking teenager, with bright brown eyes, thick wavy hair, and a reputation in school for brains and diligence. But, come November, she had cause for joy: after a straightforward labor, she gave birth to a winsome infant. Moreover, the pregnancy conjured ghosts of heartbreak she believed she’d put to rest years ago: Susan, who would have been eighteen now, dead in her cradle with scarlet fever and the twin boys, stillborn, unnamed, taken from her and buried before she had seen them (as was the practice then). Fred, their baby, was nearly ten Aderyn herself, forty-three. ![]() ![]() They had believed themselves long since finished with nappies and crying spells. Early in the spring of 1893, in the village of Osmington in Dorset, the Scudders, Aderyn (née Prothero, from Cardiff) and her husband, Elwood (the butcher), were surprised and not entirely pleased to discover that she was with child. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Beach read emily![]() ![]() Gus was a critic of January’s stories, with their perpetual happy endings. ![]() Augustus (Gus) and January went to university together, both studying writing. Diana is so lovely, every titled man in England must fall for her. In every scene she’s in, she makes the same inane assertions. Highwood is a good example of why I’ve grown tired of quaint Spindle Cove. ![]() In the books preceeding this one, Diana’s role has been to be a gorgeous, delicate foil for her matrimony-obsessed mother, Mrs. Diana is the well-behaved sister of my favorite of all the Spindle Cove spinsters, Minerva, the heroine of the very amusing A Week to Be Wicked. The fairest maiden in Spindle Cove is Diana Highwood. This novella, Beauty and the Blacksmith, is a quick, easy read, the equivalent of a too small serving of trifle served with a half cup of over-sweetened tea. You’d better strap in because reading American Queen is one intoxicating thrill ride that will steal your breath. If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. For all you Penny Pervies out there, I think I’ve found your Disney World of erotica. It’s HAWT! This book is hotter than Hades with some of the dirtiest, raunchiest, most thigh-clenching sex scenes I’ve probably ever read, including a ménage à trois to end all ménages. It involves the relationships between the granddaughter of an influential politician and the two most powerful men in the country. If you hate love triangles, don’t bother with this book. The story spans over two decades, beginning with the heroine as a young girl.It takes place against a political backdrop.Five things you should know about American Queen: Oh! My! Gosh! What did I just read?!?! Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. ![]() Published by Self-Published on October 24th 2016 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Siegel, the liberal, was and remains a social democrat (as opposed to a democratic socialist). As author Fred Siegel correctly observes, it is a top-bottom coalition of the well-credentialed (but not well-educated) upper-middle class and beyond, plus those who work for, depend upon, or otherwise presume to shelter under the benevolent arm of government.
